Extensions, lofts and carpentry, built by a master carpenter.

Nathan has been on the tools since 2001. His team plans, builds and finishes the whole job, from the first sketch to the last skirting board.

What we build

From a fitted wardrobe to a full extension.

Woodpecker started with carpentry and grew into a full building company. That joinery background shows in the finish on every job, big or small.

    Extensions

Single-storey kitchen extensions, garden rooms and rear additions with bifolds and roof lights, built from the footings up.

  • 02

    Loft conversions

Dormer lofts that add a bedroom and bathroom without moving house, with storage built into the eaves so no space goes to waste.

  • 03

    Kitchens & bathrooms

Design and fitting, including the plumbing and electrics, so one team takes the room from stripped out to finished.

  • 04

    Bespoke carpentry

Fitted wardrobes, built-in storage and feature joinery, made to fit the room rather than the other way round.

    Shop & restaurant fit-outs

Where Woodpecker made its name: counters, panelling, seating and full refurbishments for shops, cafes and restaurants.

Restaurant interior with panelled walls, exposed brick and pendant lighting

Plumbing and electrical work is handled in-house too, from design to completion, for homes and businesses.

Who you'll be dealing with

A graphic designer who picked up a saw and never put it down.

Nathan started out in graphic design. In 2001 he swapped it for carpentry and spent the next two decades learning every side of the trade, from roofing to UPVC installs.

Woodpecker began in 2013 with straightforward jobs and moved quickly into shop fitting and restaurant refurbishments, the kind of work where the joinery is on show and has to be right. After Covid the company grew into loft conversions and extensions, and became Woodpecker Carpentry and Build Ltd.

That eye for design never left. It's why clients talk about the ideas as much as the build.

How a job runs

No surprises, start to finish.

The same four steps on every project, whether it's a single room or a whole extension.

  1. Plan it together

We talk through what you want and draw up a clear plan that fits your space and budget.

  2. Look at the space

We come out to you, measure up and work through the detail on site, free of charge.

  3. A proper estimate

You get a written estimate that breaks down every part of the job, so nothing turns up later.

  4. Finish it right

The last ten per cent is where carpentry shows. We don't leave until the details are done.

"We had an excellent experience with Woodpecker Carpentry and Building from start to finish. Nathan and his team took on a big extension and renovation project for us and delivered an incredible finish in good time and on budget. Nathan basically project managed the whole build whilst giving recommendations and design advice along the way. If you want a reliable, friendly, fairly priced and knowledgable builder then look no further. We already have them booked in for our garden room build. Simply brilliant. Thanks Nathan!"

"Outstanding. James is creative and innovative in his use of materials and design. We now have an excellent storage solution in a loft conversion which has optimised the space available."

Which areas do you cover?

We're based on Burrfields Road in Portsmouth and work across Portsmouth, Fareham, Chichester, Southampton and the areas around them.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. We come out, look at the space with you and talk it through, then send a detailed written estimate that breaks down every part of the job.

Can you handle the whole job, including plumbing and electrics?

Yes. We cover construction, plumbing and electrical work from design through to completion, so you deal with one team rather than chasing separate trades.

Do you take on commercial work?

Yes. Shop fitting and restaurant refurbishments are where Woodpecker made its name, and we still take on commercial fit-outs alongside home extensions and lofts.
